Attività Culturali e Svago

Il Castellaccio Farm's holiday accommodation is located 10 km from Anghiari, a charming medieval village reknown for the battle (1440) painted by Leonardo da Vinci and Paolo Uccello. Anghiari also hosts the seat of the Free University of Autobiography.

Information is available about routes, timetables and reservation system to make the most of the available opportunities in the area. Guided tours can be organised on request.

* The Fattoria is the ideal starting point to visit many of the most important Art Cities in central Italy:

Firenze (60 mins., where we have our rooms/apartment available in the city centre); Siena (60 mins.); Urbino (80 mins.); Perugia (45 mins.); Assisi (50 mins.); Pienza (40 mins.); San Marino and Montefeltro (90 mins.).

* We are centrally located in an area where more than 80% of Piero della Francesca’s work is easily accessible. From here it will be easy to visit, in two or three days his paintings in Arezzo (20. mins.), Monterchi (15 mins.), Sansepolcro (15 mins.), Urbino (80 mins.).

* The great architect, painter, humanist Giorgio Vasari was also born in this area: his works are present mainly in Arezzo, Monte San Savino (30 mins.), Camaldoli (60 mins).

Andrea, Giovanni and Luca della Robbia’s terracottas are situated in the surrounding areas, particularly in Arezzo Cathedral and La Verna franciscan sanctuary (45 mins.).

* Mixed itineraries are offered, adding to the previous options visits to
Michelangelo’s birthplace (20 mins.), and Leonardo da Vinci’s landscape sites (Mona Lisa’s background) (20 mins).

* Roman and Etruscan sites and archeological finds in Arezzo, Cortona, Chiusi, all lie within 40 mins.

* The “Franciscan walk”, St. Francis' route from La verna to Assisi passes by few hundreds meters from the holiday home and can be enjoyed on foot or horseback for a plunge into nature and spirituality. A Franciscan itinerary can also be arranged (by car) including Montauto castle and convent, La Verna, Montecasale, Assisi. Each of these places tells of legends related to the mystic man, with a power of suggestion that goes far beyond religious implications.

* As interesting can be tours to the less famous sites: Casentino’s castles and churches (Stia, Castelnuovo, Poppi, Romena, Giovi, Pieve alla Sovara, Castiglion Fiorentino); Valtiberina’s Medieval villages (Anghiari, Citerna, Monterchi, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Citta’ di Castello, Sansepolcro, Caprese Michelangelo).

* The Fattoria Il Castellaccio is located in an inter-regional area extremely diverse and alive in cultural activities: Umbria Jazz Festival (Jul-Aug), Arezzo’s International Polifonic Contest, Nations’ Festival in Citta’ di Castello, “Tovaglia a quadri” in Anghiari, the monthly antiquities fair in Arezzo, and many more.

Fattoria Il Castellaccio’s staff will be pleased to help with bookings and arrangements, sometimes to be arranged in advance.
